Why should you spay/neuter your pet?

            Pet's health and longevity -

Sterilization of your pets will increase their chance of a longer and healthier life. Spayed/Neutered animals have a very low to no risk of developing a disease such as mammary gland tumors/cancer, prostate cancer, perianal tumors, pyometria, and uterine, ovarian, and testicular cancers.

            Curb unwanted behavior -

Spayed or neutered are typically less aggressive since their instinct to mate has been eliminated. Many unwanted behaviors such as fighting, roaming, spraying, and crying will go away after surgery, and most pets become even more affectionate to their owners.

            Reduce animal companion population -

There has been a surplus of companion animals that are forced to be euthanized and unwanted pets that usually became strays or end up in a shelter. Spay and neutering control overpopulation.

New Pet comes responsibility. Here is a checklist for new fur parent!

Congratulations! You are a new fur parent! Bringing a pet to your home is a responsibility. Your pet will be a new member of your growing family, and as a puppy or kitten, it will need more of your time, love, and care.

New pet? So what now? Here is a list of the first things you need to do:

             1. Take to a vet for a wellness exam

            – One of the best ways to keep your new pet in top health is with regular check-ups and routines. Knowing your pet's overall wellness with the help of our Vets helps them get the right nutrition, behavior, exercise, and all the best tips for a healthy lifestyle. Talk to our Vets!

             2. Do get core vaccines

            - The immunities passed on to a young animal by its mother last only a few weeks. Getting the series of core vaccines for your pet to protect them against disease ensures your pets will grow into happy and healthy adults. Veterinarians recommend immunizing puppies and kittens at 6 to 8 weeks of age.

             3.Have your pet MICROCHIP

            - Veterinarians encourage pet parents to make sure pets are microchipped and have identification tags. Getting identified helps a lot of fur parents that lost their pets.

             4.Have your PET LICENSE

            – Most municipalities require pet licenses around the time of your puppy or kitten’s first rabies vaccination. Make a habit of keeping their information up to date!

             5. Socializing your pet

            – Every household member is encouraged to spend time with their new furry friends. Make time for playing, feeding, and grooming. Give your pet a chance to become familiar with many sounds and activities in your home like doorbells, mail carriers, TV, etc. One other key to healthy socialization is learning to be alone. Train your pet to accept time in their crate or gated area by taking a walk or being in a room without them.

Why Your Pet Dental Care is Important

Your pet can’t take care of their dental health as you can. Like us Humans, proper dental care prevents oral-related problems and ensures overall health.

It’s important to be mindful of potential issues early on because our pets won’t show signs of pain until the issue has progressed for some time.

At Laguna Pet Care Center, we take care of your pet's oral health.

Why your Pets Dental Care is Important?

           1. Prevent Bad Breath

Bad Breath is one of the warning signs that your pet needs better dental hygiene. If left alone for too long, your pet may develop Halitosis. Halitosis is a periodontal disease arising from plaque (biofilm) and tartar build-up. Prevent this by regularly brushing your pet's teeth. Talk to our Vets for product and hygiene practice recommendations.

           2. Prevent Dental Disease

Poor Dental Care leads to worsening dental disease. The most common dental issues are:

             Fractured Teeth

             Gingivitis

             Periodontal Disease

Developing any disease will lead to the poor well-being of your pets. They may have trouble eating or playing with hard toys.

Good thing that we can do preventive care. If you see signs, make an appointment with your Veterinary right away.

           3. Save Money!

If your pet develops severe dental disease, it may lead to costly medical needs. Preventive care by regular brushing and routine dental checkups will save you and your pet pain and money in the future.

Tips for a Stress-Free Holiday Party with Pets

The holiday season is here! Keep your pets safe, happy, and healthy during this festive season.

Holidays mean non-stop parties here and there. If you plan to celebrate at your home or bring your dogs with you to parties, here are the tips for a stress-free holiday:

Teach Manners and do Basic Training

Having a well-trained pet can lead to a stress-free gathering for you, your dog, and your guests. Before hosting any event, you must check your pet's behavior toward other people. It's important to teach them basic training commands and manners early to prevent accidents and non-stop barkings, and have a peaceful celebration.

Schedule Grooming Appointment Ahead of Time

The holiday season means a fully-booked grooming appointment in your favorite Pet Grooming Shop. Get that appointment ahead of time to prepare your pet for a lot of petting, hugs, and kisses. You don't want matted fur and stinky smells this holiday. Don't forget to have Family Photos with your well-groomed pet.

           Pet proofing

We know the Holiday calls for festive food, and our pets love the aromas! They surely come at you at your dining table giving their best puppy eyes and all we can say "aww". Be aware of the food that is toxic to your pets and make sure that your guests will not hand table food to your pets without your consent. Check the nearest Animal Hospital to you and list down their number just in case there is an emergency.

We hope for a fun, enjoyable, warm, and safe holiday for all of us! Laguna Pet Care Center provides pet grooming services, pet food, and treats that you could order online or via our store.

How to Check Your Pets for Lumps and Bumps at Home

Have you ever noticed any bumps or lumps in your pet? Did you know that Pets can get mammary tumors? Fur parents need to know how to identify lumps and bumps and what to do should they find one

How to Check Your Pets for Lumps and Bumps at Home

Give your pet an exam regularly, ideally once a month. Run your fingers through their hair and check them out all over. Be sure to take notes and mark your calendar so you won't forget.

If you noticed any bumps or lumps, you should schedule an appointment with your vet to have it checked out. A veterinarian will screen or give you advice if the lump or bump is a concern or not.

Your veterinarian can aspirate the lump to get a better idea of what it might be. They will poke the lump with a needle and draw out some cells to look at under the microscope. Once the results came in, surgery may or may not be recommended. Fortunately, many of the cases of bumps and lumps on pets are benign and not a cause for concern.

If the concern is a cancerous tumor, the Vet will likely recommend that it be removed surgically and send the sample to a pathologist. A pathologist will tell if the veterinarian removed all the cancerous parts of the tumor from the body, and give more details about what type of cancer the growth is.

Taking your pet to the veterinarian for an annual check-up is a good and efficient way to catch any lumps or bumps or any concerns regarding your pet. It's better to take precautions for the overall well-being of our fur babies and also for us as fur parents.
