New pet? So what now? Here is a list of the first things you need to do:

1. Take to a vet for a wellness exam – One of the best ways to keep your new pet in top health is with regular check-ups and routines. 2. Do get core vaccines - The immunities passed on to a young animal by its mother last only a few weeks. Getting the series of core vaccines for your pet to protect them against disease ensures your pets will grow into happy and healthy adults. Veterinarians recommend immunizing puppies and kittens at 6 to 8 weeks of age.

3.Have your pet MICROCHIP - Veterinarians encourage pet parents to make sure pets are microchipped and have identification tags. Getting identified helps a lot of fur parents that lost their pets.

4.Have your PET LICENSE – Most municipalities require pet licenses around the time of your puppy or kitten’s first rabies vaccination. Make a habit of keeping their information up to date!

5. Socializing your pet – Every household member is encouraged to spend time with their new furry friends. Make time for playing, feeding, and grooming. How to Check Your Pets for Lumps and Bumps at Home

Have you ever noticed any bumps or lumps in your pet? Did you know that Pets can get mammary tumors? Fur parents need to know how to identify lumps and bumps and what to do should they find one

How to Check Your Pets for Lumps and Bumps at Home

Give your pet an exam regularly, ideally once a month. Run your fingers through their hair and check them out all over. Be sure to take notes and mark your calendar so you won't forget.

If you noticed any bumps or lumps, you should schedule an appointment with your vet to have it checked out. A veterinarian will screen or give you advice if the lump or bump is a concern or not.

Your veterinarian can aspirate the lump to get a better idea of what it might be. They will poke the lump with a needle and draw out some cells to look at under the microscope. Once the results came in, surgery may or may not be recommended. Fortunately, many of the cases of bumps and lumps on pets are benign and not a cause for concern.

If the concern is a cancerous tumor, the Vet will likely recommend that it be removed surgically and send the sample to a pathologist. A pathologist will tell if the veterinarian removed all the cancerous parts of the tumor from the body, and give more details about what type of cancer the growth is.

Taking your pet to the veterinarian for an annual check-up is a good and efficient way to catch any lumps or bumps or any concerns regarding your pet. It's better to take precautions for the overall well-being of our fur babies and also for us as fur parents.
